#47- The Oyster Roll - Pearl Oyster Bar

This sandwich was the most spendy so far, but considering the ingredients, it made sense. I’m way into seafood, but I don’t usually get fried oysters, so I was excited to try this sandwich. Oh boy, it was great. The location was in the West Village, where we haven’t been yet for this project. Again, a very unique feel from any other place we’ve been. It was definitely a slightly upscale feel, but not nearly as trendy or businessy as Ma Peche.

I think this sandwich would be great at any time of year. The whole fried seafood roll is very summer-time to me, but the richness, flavor and portion size would make it totally satisfying in winter, too. The fry on the oysters was super sharp and crunchy, not oily at all, and you could actually taste the oyster in there. The bun was like a potato hot dog bun, I think, but it held up very nicely. The real star, though, was the tartar sauce. It was a great consistency- not over thick, not watery, and had a perfect balance of creamyness and tartness from the vinegar. The bits of cornichon pickle in the sauce were left in pretty decent sized chunks, so you could really get some extra flavor and texture out of them. So, so good. Add a little lettuce and a lemon spritz to brighten it up, and there you have it- a strong showing from Pearl Oyster Bar at #47.

Don’t be mean. In addition to taking a way too big bite, I get tartar sauce all over my face.
