#46, Grilled Cheese Classic, Milk Truck

I wish I could say that we tracked down a food truck and got a sandwich, but during the week the “truck” is actually a charming little stand in Madison Square Eats, an area of about a block and a half of tents with food/drink stalls. The crowd was a mix of commuter jams/hip New Yorkers looking for casual food served in a semi-gourmet style.

Now, the classic was the listed sandwich, so we had to have it. It was very buttery, the gruyere was delicious, etc. But it’s a bit thin, and Eva and I wanted to be adventurous. So we also got a Ham & Cheese and Classic Twist (w/ onions), and each ate a half. I preferred the Ham & Cheese. It had this great spicy mustard spread on it, and I love mustard. The Twist wasn’t bad, I just preferred the Ham & Cheese.

The thing about Milk Truck is that they are constantly updating their menu. So if we went back (and I would in a heartbeat) I’d probably try a different kind of grilled cheese. And maybe get a cup of soup too, who knows.

Looking back, this blog has become mostly jokes about white people, puns, and food items ( 66% sandwiches, 33% burritos). But I think anyone who is still reading this already knew that about me. We usually like to spread out the sandwiches a bit more, but I have to go see a man in midtown about a retainer tomorrow, so we had to go today.

ANYWAYS, this was the first dairy sandwich we’ve had since the cream cheese on #50- The Super Heebster from Russ and Daughters. Man, it was prettttty tasty. The cheese was excellent, and I got a couple good gooey bites. It was a bit thin though- I think the press they use for it is a panini press, so it might put too much weight and push the sandwich down too much. Also, I tend to like a little more going on, flavor-wise. The grilled cheese was super good, but where Jon like the Ham and Cheese, I think I actually might have liked the Twist (grilled cheese with pickled onion and grainy mustard) better. I like a lot of flavors and textures. Jon likes the ham one. I like the onion one. (Let’s call the whole thing off).

All told, I would for sure recommend Milk Truck- it seems like one of the better (and simpler) classic/ home style foods with a gourmet twist specialty restaurants/ dishes, I’ve had. It was great that we got to have a nice hot grilled cheese outside on a fall day, as well, but I would also get something different off the menu if I went again. And probably a cup of soup, too.
