#40, Mumbai Grilled Sandwich, Mumbai Xpress
Things I didn’t like: The taste of the sandwich. That picture above accurately depicts what I consider to be three pieces of bread filled with onions, some peppers, and minimal pieces of cheese. There’s some sort of spread on the sandwich as well, which I think made it even spicier. It just wasn’t for me, as you’ll see below in my first bite reaction.
Things I liked: The restaurant is extremely Indian, with Indian TV, pictures of Mumbai on the walls, etc. Also, we had to rent a ZipCar and drive ~35 minutes to Queens to get to it. To some people, I’m sure those things would be negatives, but I’m really glad they were a part of this sandwich.
One half of this challenge is finding and eating great sandwiches, and the other half is adventure. I liked driving to Queens to get a sandwich because I liked the idea of driving to Queens just to get a sandwich. It’s just absurd. It’s silly. It’s fun. If #40 didn’t have that adventure aspect, I might have just written off the whole thing.

I liked this one! It was interesting and different from any of the other sandwiches we’ve had, and was a fun combination of familiar tastes, and totally new ones. It was by no means my favorite of this project so far, but I did enjoy it. This is also only the second vegetarian sandwich we’ve had so far.
One of the best things about this whole thing is the going-to-new-places part. And with this one, the adventure aspect was a lot of fun, too. The restaurant seemed like a super authentic local family place, and I definitely would not have been out that far in Queens if not for this sandwich being on the project.
