#38, Stewed Pork Sandwich, Xi’an Famous Foods

Honestly, there’s not really much I can say other than I say in the below first bite video. This sandwich was a standard pulled-pork sandwich, but what sets it apart is the roll, which is halfway between a pita and a roll. It was greasy and crispy and soft and delicious.
In short, this sandwich was $2.50, it was about the size of my fist, and it was great. I highly recommend it.

This was total Asian comfort food. Simple, unpretentious, affordable ($2.50!!), flavorful, and served piping hot.
There’s been a food trend over the past few years where people have been taking traditional home cooking or “peasant” type foods, and making them more gourmet. The Stewed Pork Sandwich totally avoided the pressure to make this type of food more fancy than it needs to be.
Xian Famous Foods has three locations in Manhattan. With such affordable prices and outstanding food, and fast service, I’ll definitely be back to this place.
