#35 Pork Meatball Hero, The Meatball Shop (Greenwich Ave Location)

This is my kind of sandwich, a meatball sub (the word “hero” is a little too New York for me). We chose spicy pork and spicy sauce, and although I was a little worried about how hot it was going to be, it was perfect. Provolone cheese is the cheese of choice when it comes to meatballs. It just amplifies the meat, it doesn’t mask the flavor. This sandwich was incredible, and the one thing I would have changed is getting it on a white baguette instead of wheat.

Big thanks to Emily Axford, who, as I say in the first bite video below, was Eva’s Secret Santa and gave her a gift card to The Meatball Shop, therefore financing our little trip. Thank you! The sandwich was delicious, and with three locations around the city, and a multitude of meat options, I’m definitely planning on going again.

So, so good, and a perfect way to start of the 2012 portion of this project. After a mild winter, the past few days have been pretty cold, so seeing a formidable, meat based number come up on this list was just what I wanted. This sandwich ended up being the only thing I ate yesterday, besides 10-12 gummy bears.

The spice in the meat and in the sauce was quiet and steady, while also not allowing you to forget it was there. The portion size was spot-on— ALMOST too much food, and the size of the sandwich itself was substantial but not overwhelming. The texture was soft but not mushy. And They didn’t try to give you a ton of bread.

Meatball Shop has being around for a few years now, and has been doing SUPER well. I’ve never been before, because the place has always been packed during the evening. When we went during lunchtime though, there was no wait at all. So glad that Meatball Shop came up on the list, and I was finally able to eat there. I will be back here and I wanna try everything on the menu.
